Story:

“Journey of Travellers” is celebrating First Nations People’s diverse cultures and stories. This painting will convey our journeys in life, especially when we come together for special moments and experiences which create our memories.  Travelling creates these memories of curiosity, wonder, celebration and appreciation.

 The painting is based around my Elder’s Songline of the “Nygabaya or Spirit People Dreaming.” They were travellers from the Dreamtime singing to share stories, knowledge, and experiences of places that they visited or settled where they became a part of landscape or sea. The Nygabaya have different markings to represent different people.  The waves of colours, symbols and patterns to represent different lands, our emotions represented in the magenta wave and within the pink and orange circles, and our growth is in the purple wave represented by the green circles and blue represent our healing from our experiences.  The blue wave represents our waters, creeks, sea, billabong, rivers and creeks and the orange wave represents our skies from dawn at top to sunset on bottom. The brown and cream waves represent our landscape.

 Like the Nygabaya we travel on our journeys where we meet others, make new friends, experience, share and encourage others to visit. Sometimes, there is a deeper feeling, and we are inspired to stay.
